Cats Cradle is the fictional story of a man by the name of Dr. Felix Hoenniker, one of the masterminds
behind the "Manhattan Project". One of the most influencial, top secret projects in U.S. history, which developed the Atomic
Bomb. The story starts with the author trying to discover the secrets of Mr. Hoennikers family life, which he valued little,
and usually put second to his work in the office. He was said to be one of the most brilliant scientists in history, and had
invented many things which could destroy the world in seconds, one of them being the chemichal, "Ice Nine". Ice Nine had the
ability to freeze the entire worlds oceans in a matter of seconds, and all rivers and streams attached to them. When Dr. Hoenniker
died, he left his children each with a sliver of the Ice Nine and the tree of them parted ways. One a midget, one a homely
looking young lady, and one the heir to the throne of a small island country in the Atlantic. The author tries to bring them
together on this small island and ends up getting more than he had bargained for. The young man who was to be the new president
of the island, had been left to take care of all social affairs, and couldn't handle it, so he pawns the job off on the author,
who also gets to marry the beautiful "Princess", Mona, but soon after the Ice Nine slips into the ocean with the body of the
first President of San Lorenzo, the small Atlantic island, and the oceans instantly freeze over. Mona and the author hide
out for weeks in a cellar, but Mona eventually takes her own life and the author spends the rest of his on the island. Although
this is a fictional story, I thing it makes good points about the advances in science, and the human emotions. It also has
a strong underlying plot about a religon which originated on San Lorenzo, that puts a new twist on the figure of Jesus Christ,
and religon as a whole. I loved this book.
